Windshields come with many options and features to enhance safety and comfort while riding in the vehicle. It is common to see vehicle manufacturers using various features depending on your vehicle package.

Some of these common features are detailed below:

Common Features

Blind Spot Monitoring

Blind spot monitoring uses sensors on the vehicle and mirrors to indicate to the driver when a car is in the "Bling Spot."" This is usually an audible "Beep" and an indication on the side mirror where the vehicle is detected.

Electrochromic Mirrors

Electrochromic mirrors adjust automatically at nighttime and can sometimes include backup cameras. These mirrors have electrical components that automatically change for the driver, providing a hands-free experience.

Heads Up Display

The Heads Up Display, or HUD is designed to project dashboard information onto the windshield. The HUD can provide vehicle speed, temperature, GPS instructions and more. Allowing the vehicle operator to keep their eyes on the road.

Heated Wipers and De-Icing

Some vehicles come from the factory with de-icing options. These are typically heat lines that run under the wiper blade parking area to de-ice the windshield during winter. However, there are aftermarket systems that heat the wiper blade. These heated wiper blades prevent ice and snow buildup on the edges of your windshield.

Lane departure warning system

These systems notify you when you are changing lanes without using your indicator. These are usually small cameras attached to the windshield to prompt drivers when they drift out of the lane.

Rain Sensors

Many modern vehicles come from the factory with rain sensors. These little devices attach to the windshield and detect when water or snow is on the glass. Rain sensors turn your wipers and lights on automatically.

Solar Windshields

High-quality windshields are solar-controlled. Each windshield is made of an inner and outer sheet of glass with a special interlayer to prevent shattering. Solar windshields add a layer reflecting UV rays, helping keep your vehicle cooler in the summer.

Windshield Third Visor

The Third Visor is a black-tinted area behind the rear-view mirror. Its purpose is to extend the gap between where the sun-visors meet. It is different than the shade band, which is detailed below.
